SignPlay: Learning Australian Sign Language Through Interactive Mobile Games
← back to projectsOverview
As a PhD candidate, I drive the technical development of SignPlay, a real-time sign recognition system and interactive learning platform for Australian Sign Language (Auslan).
My work spans the core technical pipeline, including large-scale data collection, preprocessing, advanced motion modelling, and model development. By bridging these techniques, we aim to make sign recognition and non-verbal communication highly accessible. To handle the sheer volume of data required for this scale of research, I leverage Google Cloud (GCP) for robust data management and infrastructure scaling.
The next phase of my research involves building interactive mobile applications to deploy these models directly into the hands of learners and users. This initiative is proudly supported by a University of Sydney Commercialisation Grant and a Google Philanthropic Grant.
